We have been busy moving in since last Friday. It's crazy how much has changed in our lives. We arrived here with 10 pieces of luggage, and we slowly have been able to fill a 2 bedroom apartment. God has taken care of us through it all...and has been provided mightily through many of you. We still have many things to get to finish setting up here, but we're thankful for all that we have already.
Here's some recaps:
-We have great neighbors and the landlord's family. We call them upstairs and downstairs "Auntie." Auntie is the affectionate term you use for a woman older than yourself. The downstairs family is the landlord, his wife, and their 8 y/o son. The upstairs family is a woman and her 15 y/o daughter. Her husband lives in the States. They are both Hindu, so this has been great to get inside cultural information from them. We were warmly welcomed and have spent many days in conversation with them. They have helped us settle in much already.
-We have help! We hired the downstairs Auntie's maid to clean our floors, do our dishes, and take out our trash. Downstairs Auntie also found us a lady to cook. She's been amazing. She started on Weds, and we decided to have her cook 6/7 days for lunch. She's a 29 y/o mom of two who speaks some English. She came with a smile and has a great disposition. Both women are Nepali, but have grown up in India. So, they will be great Hindi teachers.
-Language FINALLY starts on Monday. Chris will be meeting with a guy at our house from 10:30-12, I will meet with a woman from 9-10:30. We will both use our "closet" room...we will turn this into a study room. It's the room between our bathroom and master bedroom. Eventually we may have to make this Aly's room, but it will work for know.
-We love our teammates. We spent last Sunday evening at their home, and they came over here on Friday. They have been here for 5 years and have been so encouraging in the process. They have given us space, but are available whenever they need us. They live across town, so that gives us good boundaries too. Just last night they watched Sam so we could go out for our anniversary. We were so grateful because we miss especially help from grandparents and aunts :)
-5 years married! We celebrated last night at a restaurant set in the foothills of the Himalayas. It was great food and beautiful environment. Chris hired his friend to drive his taxi, so we followed up dinner with a trip to the mall. Errands take so long here, so we were thankful to finally get out together.
-A car! An Indian family will be going to the States for a month. They were looking for a family to bless with their car. They are going to let us use it for the month! This will be very helpful to us. We hope to buy some type of car in the coming months, but this will let us get out more for the time being. (Me especially!!) Chris and Sam get out everyday to the market, but my frequency is more weekly these days.
Thanks for thinking of us, praying for us, emailing us, and loving us! We can't believe Christmas is 10 days away. We are going to have our neighbors over for a "pasta meal," Christmas story, Christmas songs, and cookies. Please be praying for that.
