Even though we have both been here before, we were hoping
for an initial honeymoon period. This is
where everything culturally seems amazing and exciting. You are not annoyed or frustrated but instead
see the world through rose colored glasses.
We knew that the kids would change the dynamics. Also, the perspective changes when you are
living here for a long time. There’s no
end in sight. We have had a hard
week. We are in the capital city, Delhi,
attending a language camp and doing some orientation. It’s a huge city…21 million people. Therefore, it makes it impossible for me to
take Aly around with us. She needs to
sleep throughout the day, and the Indian noises, smells, and dirt make that
incredibly difficult while we are out. I
made it to one day of class with her, but she decided to scream at me in the
afternoon and evening because she was overtired and overstimulated. We are making it, but we are ready to get our
“life” set up in our city. All the
luxuries here we can’t enjoy with a toddler and infant.
Pray for us in this season of transition. Life just feels hard. We’re only a week past Thanksgiving, and it’s
already easy to complain and be ungrateful.
The Lord has brought us here. He
will sustain us. We are in survival mode
though. We are trying to have joy in trials,
but it’s very difficult when we feel so exhausted and drained.
We are going to try to move into our new place next week,
but that means we have much to get. From
toilet paper to light bulbs to space heaters to water filters to a
refrigerator…so Chris will have to be out and about running errands and meeting
delivery men. It will be so nice to have
a rhythm and routine with the kids. Sam
has been asking to “go home.” Hopefully
we can make this place feel like home to him quickly. He’s been so great, but we find ourselves
saying no all day long. Pray that we
would be patient with him and playful even when there’s much to do.
