Maybe I am jetlagging...

We had another adventurous day in Delhi. It started by waking up at 5:30 am, deciding to sleep some more, and then waking up again at 1:15 this afternoon! What! We never sleep that long. We have only been sleeping around 5-6 hours a night, so I guess we needed to catch up. Right now, it's after 2am and I am still awake. We'll figure this sleeping thing out just before we head back I'm sure.

After waking up, Chris and I were able to wander around the neighborhood by ourselves. We found a coffee chain like Starbucks here (Barista) and hung out for a little while. Delhi is a crazy city. There is always chaos, always noise, always smells. Something is endearing about it all though. My mind will not stop here. I am constantly asking God what he wants with us. There are so many visual images of a world that is not living in knowledge of Christ.

Tonight we were able to go with some friends to a Muslim wedding. I will post some pics later. It was intense. Because we were the only white guests in the place, we were escorted to the stage to meet the bride, given chairs and a fan, and then given food to eat. We're strangers. I forgot to mention that Chris and I had to go to separate parts...It was amazing to see what wedding can be in other cultures. The bride and groom had never met until the night after their wedding. The bride looked so scared and overwhelmed...the groom on the other hand looked as if he had just won a million rupees. It makes me think about the cultural aspects of marriage.

A thought:

Indian law-driver of motorcycle must legally wear a helmet and passenger too (if he's male); if the passenger is female she need not

My favorite part of the day was talking to a friend here. We were at a "Taj Mahal" like place site seeing. The rest of the group was off looking around. We were able to talk to him and have a heart to heart. He's lived here with his family since his oldest child was 10 months old. She's 13 now. That's a long time. You can tell the Lord has given him a heart and passion for this place. He had words of encouragement, and he also shared some of the hard things that have been going on lately. This life is not easy...No matter where you are in the world.

Tomorrow morning we're off to another city. It will be a little less chaotic than Delhi, but there is a huge festival going on where men walk for miles to reach the Ganges. They are dress all in orange and have elaborate creations to carry the water. I'm sure we'll have pictures of that.

Goodnight. Maybe :)

  2. Hey Hardys!!! Greetings from the VW's. Dinner is lonely without you two. We are awaiting the reunion when you get back. You guys are in our prayers. It is great to hear about your trip. Keep up the blogging. P.S. - Dana, nothing is new in the E.R. so don't bother thinking about it, which I'm sure you're not.
